Recently I have been blessed to work in a field where I get to see the fruits of my labor pretty quickly. I work with people who are expercening homeless and I get to walk alongside them to help them get back on their feet.
I’ll share a resource with someone or get them in contact with a temp agency, and from there they can change their lives in a blink of an eye. It is the most rewarding feeling seeing someone face light up when they move home!
The smiles and laughter return.
The children running into their new home, claiming which bedroom will be theirs.
I get paid in the joy of a family getting to call a place home.
However, the actual pay is…trash.
I never knew I could live off of such a -small- amount; or, according to my contract “the poverty line”, but the lives being transformed by the work suggest otherwise: I am kicking ass and taking names!
