Hellooo and welcome back to another thrilling installment of me sharing about things near and dear to me. To say the least the world has truly been crazy these past few weeks…months.
*cough* past 3 years & 4 months *cough*

Or however we feel comfortable admitting to ourselves.
For me these past few weeks have felt pretty chaotic. Social media is filled with RIPs and videos showing graphic images of people being beaten, attacked, or killed by police. I feel torn as I write this because this is another reminder of the injustice in the world. However, it needs to be put on display. I want to yell from the rooftops to let the world hear the pain & anguish of my people. I want them to see the ugly truth that is “America.”
Not only are we facing a pandemic with a dash of incompetent leadership. We are out in the streets protesting. Or on social media sharing helpful information with loved ones, friends and strangers.
It is immeasurably mentally “heavy” to be black in America in general, but especially right now. Carrying the extra stress of having to express why my existence matters and explaining why I will never feel safe around police.
Watching people who I knew and didn’t know personally, slain in the streets for existing, walking, breathing, sleeping, jogging, being in their own neighborhood. The scenarios are endless and that’s the painful truth. The fact is that Black men & women experience police brutality at a higher rate than others. According to Mapping Police Violence, “Black people were 24% of those killed despite being only 13% of the population.”
To explain this further, white Americans experience 50.3% police brutality, but they make up 61% of the US population. Now, what do these numbers mean? They show that Black people are experience police brutality at a higher rate based on their population percentage compared to white Americans.
Those numbers alone should have be enough to light a fire under anyone to demand justice & seek change. To call their representatives, mayor, governor, or to rally up some neighbors and join an existing grassroots organization.
We will be the change we want to see in the world. So now more than ever I encourage you to register to vote & make your voice heard.
Thank you for stopping by and I’m looking forward to seeing you again on the next one! Playlist in background: Soul Coffee on Spotify
